Ripley and her friends have escaped the University’s lockdown and started their journey home on foot. They’ve found an opportunity to get supplies they sorely need, but the risk is high. Marco insists that the world is already far more dangerous than it seems, while Ripley’s not yet convinced.
She’s about to get a very bloody wake-up call.
Back home, Dotty worries over her little makeshift family, scattered to the four winds. Her neighbor is already out of food and getting pushy. There’s been a riot, and a man was killed. Holiday travelers, stranded without gas, fill the town’s parking lots. The elderly have begun dying. At the edge of town, watching over the Federal prison, the Sheriff faces a horrible decision.
The idyllic little town of Snow Hill is a powder keg, and the Mayor is holding a match.
Over the past century, people had become so reliant on electricity that they forgot how to provide for themselves. With the push of a button, food cooked in minutes. Endless clean water flowed from the faucets. Freezers preserved food for years. s were open twenty-four hours a day; there was no need to keep a pantry. What once had been thought of as magic had become…normal.
Ripley and Dotty are about to discover that normal has left the building.
Reality, with all of its hardships and danger, has arrived.
Not everyone will survive it.
SUNFALL A PostApocalyptic Survival Fiction Series Book 2 ADVENT eBook D Gideon
WOW. This was better than the first book. I gave that book five stars. I would like to see at least one more book covering how they proceed with the new environment. The thing I like about this book and the book before it was that it seemed more realistic than other books out there.
I am looking forward to more books from the author. I want to thank him for entertaining me. The time for this book was a lot shorter for this book then the first book. I would have liked to have read the book front to back in more or less one sitting, but other things interfered. It's so good to have a book to read like that.

SUNFALL A PostApocalyptic Survival Fiction Series Book 2 ADVENT eBook D Gideon Reviews
Four college friends are trying to get home after a natural disaster has caused the electricity to go out all over the world. Two have been raised to understand what to expect and how to take care of themselves in a situation like this. One is a young man who was raised in war torn areas and can handle himself in dangerous situations. And one is a young woman raised in the American political arena. Together they journey through the dangers of lawlessness and the breakdown of our society where frightened people do the unthinkable and and mobs become a force uncontrolled. This story also tells of the hometown these young people are trying to get to and the hard decisions that must be made to maintain safety for all. How are the governments and politicians working, or not working to create safety for all? The story leaves you much to think about. And left me with desire to be prepared and self reliant.
There are not a lot of series where the second book is even better than the (already great) first one, but this is one of them! It is not perfect, but I do believe the realistic, well researched and honest take on TEOTWAWKI deserve a rare 5 stars from me.
I like the story and character development, I LOVE Ms. Gideon's take on the subject. Very refreshingly realistic and never did I get the impression that a deus ex machina was right around the corner or that I was soon going to be mollified and that everything would be ok in the end. But it still is a good, fast storyline with every now and then a little surprise. And with just the right amount of humour.
That is so refreshing! Thank You, Ms. Gideon!
They say good writers don't tell what's happening, they show it. This writer shows us - better than almost anyone - what would happen to a smart, kind-hearted college student with a loyal group of friends (one of whom happens to have near Jason Bourne-level skills) comes up against the anarchy of societal collapse. The story is excellent and carefully crafted but the dialogue is truly outstanding - the group's reparte and reactions feel real. I would not be surprised to see this story optioned for a movie and I'd be the first in line for a ticket. If you're into off-grid survival stories it's hard to find better than this. Definitely worth the time & money.
The author does an excellent job in creating personalities that you will love or hate. He convincingly weaves in the decision points and events that cause dramatic changes to the characters' understanding of what they must do to survive. You will experience the run of emotions. I spent 32 years in the Army and believe I have a good grasp on the potential results following significant catastrophes. This is among the better of survival series and definitely was very hard to put down between my honey-dos. Well done.
This book deserves a five star rating because of the excellent character and plot development! This is the kind of layered storytelling I look for because the author provides a characters' back story and it helps the reader understand the nuances of each one. I read a lot of "prepper porn" and this is the first author who did the right thing with the violent inmates. I appreciate that, and the careful deliberations the characters engaged in before deciding on the course of action. So thank you for a really gripping story!
What an extremely good book this is !
Here it is, that I thought Sunfall Journey was a very good book.. but in my opinion, Advent does circles around the first book in this series!
I loved how the storyline speeds up a little bit.. and most of all, how one of the female characters learns that this new world they live in, is no longer the way it used to be, as she and her group of friends try and travel home to what they are hoping will be a safer place to live. When a solar flare causes mankind to revert back to life with no internet, or electronics, and that it seems to bring out the worst in people, Riply painfully learns and with the help of her friends, that wanting to keep her life's morale in check when everything and everyone else is in chaos, if she does not change.. then she just may not survive to get home.
This book is awesome.. ! Be sure to read Journey first, then Advent ! You will not regret reading either of such a great series !
Thank you Author D Gideon for the Sunfall series !
Book one in this series had enough interest to lead me to book 2. In every way that matters to me, book 2 is even better than the first one. The characters have further development. Rip, the young female protagonist, really grows-grows through getting bashed around until she truly understands that the world has changed and she must change with it.
As in the first book, the POV of the female character is refreshing and unique in a post apoptotic thriller. I also enjoy author Gideon's imagination. She sets up situations that I would not have thought of.
The world has become much grimmer for our characters. We hope that pluck and determination will carry them through. Our now pal, author Gideon, has set up the story for a continuation. What will the chicken farmer do? Will the handsome young student capture the heart of Rip or will she reject him? And were will the gigantic biker felon fit in? Please keep writing, Mz. Gideon.
