Marshals Book Three

Miro Jones is living the life he’s got his exciting, fulfilling job as a US deputy marshal, his gorgeous Greystone in suburban Chicago, his beloved adopted family, and most importantly, the man who captured his heart, Ian Doyle. Problem is, Ian isn’t just his partner at work—Ian’s a soldier through and through. That commitment takes him away from Miro, unexpectedly and often, and it’s casting a shadow over what could be everything Miro could ever dream of.

Work isn’t the same without Ian. Home isn’t the same, either, and Miro’s having to face his fears alone… how to keep it together at the office, how to survive looming threats from the past, and worst of all, how to keep living without Ian’s rock-solid presence at his side. His life is tied up in knots, but what if unknotting them requires something more permanent? What would that mean for him and Ian? Miro’s stuck between two bad choices, and sometimes the only way to get out of the knot is to hold tight to your lifeline and pull.

Tied Up in Knots (Marshals Book 3) - edition by Mary Calmes. Literature & Fiction eBooks @ . Reviews

For me this one wasn't an easy read.. I think I had a hard time getting ONLY Miro's POV when their relationship difficulties started to rise. I could see how much it all cost Miro and I was thinking - Is Ian worth it? Which was basically what Miro was thinking but it took him long enough to say it to himself and out loud. Choosing Ian not only as a partner but as a lover when he is more away than present makes it difficult especially when he has so many things to deal with - like the PTSD from the torture he went through in the previous book.

In a way everything is at it was before, they are still partners, still best friends, working together and now living together, but Miro is struggling to make his life his own when he feels like he is living from (Ian's) one deployment to the next. Missing Ian like crazy and needing him to actually be able to sleep a whole night. Ian doesn't want to give up being a Special Forces but in a way we start to see his resolve crumbling when he realizes how much it costs not only Miro but himself.

Though there's a lot going on with Miro with another very hard to read episode of Dr. Hartley (would you believe even HE has is limits to who he won't harm?), Ian also have his own issues from his old military unit as well as a new treat to his life (and their). It's time for Miro to learn a bit more about his partner and lover though nothing can surprise him. He knows what he needs about who Ian IS, so even if Ian feels ashamed of some of the stuff, he has nothing to worry about from Miro.

This book (as was the other ones) is FILLED with so many side characters I'm at times thrown off the loop, especially since some of them are from other books and series by Mary and though I've read most of her books, I can't say I remember all of them, especially when it's just a name dropped without a real reference to who that person is or anything special about him. After all I'm reading A LOT and so there are sure to be similar names from different authors and I'm not that good with names as it is..

This book was MAJOR for Miro and Ian, but it's exactly what made me like it less because what I was seeing Miro deal with and the little Ian was there made me want to punch Ian in the face and not care about the consequences! But I think he needed to be punched in the face by LIFE and see how much his decisions impact his current life and what he wants for his future. Though it was SO hard to read of another episode from Dr Hartley, I think the effect it had on both of them was extremely important. They both got to the last they are willing to accept and knew changes needed to be made.

There's A LOT going on in this one and I gulped it in NO TIME, but I'll leave my review as it is, better to get the whole story for yourselves don't you think? ;) I enjoyed it, and can't wait to see how things keeps on progressing for the two.

While waiting for the audio book to come out (which it did today - and with Tristan James continuing narration) I've read this book at least three times. First reading - ok, 2nd reading - caught more, better, 3rd reading - terrific. I always have to read things a few times to really appreciate There are a few couples whom I love - JL's Adrien and Jake, MC's Jory and Sam, MC's Stef and Rand, AR's Ty and Zane (calm down my heart...), and, last but not least MC's Miro and Ian. I think of all the guys Miro is the one I would most like in my life. He's wonderfully flawed - he's perfect. So I can easily say I enjoyed this book and I may even incur traffic fines as I rush home to listen to the audio for the first time. Can't wait. Tristan James brings so many of these men to life - I can't praise his work enough. As to this third installment ebook the author really delivered. I think the scenes at the cemetery/after reception were just wonderful - Miro into full protective mode and you get to see his rough "foster-kid" side. Ms. Calmes always adds a scene or two that really hit home (in the second book it was where Miro and Ian went to his father's 60th birthday - again, Miro just broke loose in his anger over the treatment/neglect his family showed Ian). Just wonderful. And I do believe Ms. Calmes said there would be one more and I can see that happening from what happened in this book. Happy happy joy joy. So if you're a fan of the series and you gave a poor review - read the book again, it reveals a little more of its charms with each reading.
Really liked the first two books in this series and was looking forward to this one, but this one had too many stories going on, too many people involved, too little time together for Ian and Miro. Too much craziness with Two murderers showing up in their house at the same time. And Dr. Hartley that at the end of book two (which that part of book two was super creepy and messed up) was sent away to an uber safe prison where he would be locked up for all time and never heard from again, but of course we couldn't have that, he manages to escape again..since you know, it's so easy to escape from prison multiple times. Miro ends up kissing Hartley. I am completely repulsed from where this went. So disgusting. And of course Hartley lives to probably return again. Actually no "probably" about it. The guy will certainly show up again, guaranteeing that I won't show up again for the next book in the series.

I felt like this book was too much of everything. Too much of Hartley, too much of Ian being gone, too many gay men everywhere Miro went. Miro's boss is gay, his coworkers are gay, his neighbor, his witnesses, cops he comes into contact with while out of state, the sheriff that works in their same town, The psychopath that's always after him...the list goes on. {rolls eyes}

Between Miro and Ian not getting much time together, the much overused threat of Hartley, and the alternate world of all gay men, it was also too much for me.
Let me start by saying I am a fan. Have read most of Mary Calmes' books. I got totally geeked out in the first few chapters. There were references made to another one of my favorite writers Rhys Ford and her books Sinner's Gin. I was ready then to write my review then and just gush and if i had stopped there I would have been happy. I just wasn't happy with the rest of the book. Too many story lines that went no where. Too many characters that were brought in and done nothing with. It was all over the map I just wish it was kept a little more simple and told one story beginning to end. No so many stories that were not finished. Sorry
